Agenda 21 for Culture


The Ministry of Culture of Buenos Aires last October attended the first meeting of the Working Group on Culture United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), held in the city of Barcelona . The meeting approved new guidelines for the dissemination and implementation of Agenda 21 of culture in local government .


The Agenda 21 for Culture is the first document with worldwide mission that establishes an undertaking by cities and local governments for cultural development .


was adopted at the IV ° Local Authorities Forum in Barcelona the May 8, 2004 under the Universal Forum of Cultures as a guiding document for public policies and cultures as a contribution to cultural development of mankind. The event was attended by the Minister of Culture, Silvia Fajre Architect, representing the City of Buenos Aires .


In October of that same year, Cities and United Local (UCLG) adopted Agenda 21 of culture as a reference document for its cultural programs, thus constituting the Working Group on Culture in June 2005.


The Working Group on Culture is the meeting point for cities, local governments and networks that place culture at the center of their development processes . Chaired by the City of Barcelona , and vice-chaired by the cities of Buenos Aires and Stockholm, consists of fifty cities, local governments and organizations worldwide.


For the period 2005-2007, the main objective the program is "To promote the role of culture as a central dimension of local policies through the dissemination and implementation of Agenda 21 culture" (Report of the First Meeting of the Working Group on Culture Report Barcelona, \u200b\u200b23-24 October 2006).


On the Agenda 21 for Culture , we note that a growing number of cities and local governments of the world have adopted in their local. The Agenda 21 arises from the need to view culture as a center of urban strategies and as an indispensable dimension for the development both essential for its dedication to promote human rights , model the knowledge society and improved quality of life all people, for their contribution to the creation of employment, urban regeneration and social inclusion .


Agenda consists of 67 articles, divided into three sections: "Principles", "Commitments" and "Recommendations." Today, 168 cities, local governments and organizations around the world are linked to Agenda 21 culture.
